Lenten soup suppers

Every Wednesday in Lent, we're having soup suppers and programs for adults and kids in the Parish Hall, starting at 6:30. You should come; last week, my favorite soups were the yellow split pea and the lentil-with-ham, but only because I'm not a fungophile and the other two soups featured lots mushrooms (and garnered rave reviews!). The herbed biscuits were YUMMY, and - oh sweet memories - there were thick soft squares of gingerbread, the kind my mom used to serve with hot lemon sauce, for dessert.

We talked about Peter being called by Jesus. We'll be discussing Peter all Lent, which is great for a parish that takes him as its patron. I love being a St. Peter's parishioner, because Peter's very existence, to say nothing of his exalted role in the life of the early Church, makes me think God really does want me around just the way I am! Peter, with all his abundant flaws, with his grouchiness and headstrong nature and occasional cowardice - now there's a "hero" I can aspire to emulate. (Just to clarify, I'm not trying to be headstrong, grouchy, and cowardly, but it's good to know that even if I am, I can still reap the benefits of grace.)

Come join us!

What is Peter's Hill?

Welcome! Peter's Hill is a blog devoted to St. Peter's Church in the Great Valley, an Episcopal parish near Malvern, PA. St. Peter's has existed as a parish since 1700, first as a mission church of St. David's, later and at present as an independent entity. It's located on a sixteen-acre nature preserve on the top of the highest ground in the Great Valley, with a church building dating from the early 1800s (what we call "the Old Church"), a large building completed in 2005 that encompasses a beautiful worship space, several classrooms, and (soon, we hope) a commercial kitches (we call this building "the Barn" because it's built in the style of a Welsh bank barn), and a preschool with three programs for children aged 2 1/2 to pre-kindergarten, located in the same building as the parish office.

You can learn more about St. Peter's at its website, and about St. Peter's Preschool at the pages devoted to it.

This blog is a place for news and goings-on, an open conversation about what we do and what we want to do at St. Peter's. We hope you'll stick around.
